Programmable user models ({PUMS}} was a class of cognitive models based on the SOAR cognitive architecture. The model was used to act as a surrogate user in testing of user interfaces or other user tasks such as arithmatic. The purpose of PUMS was to emulate the user clsoely enough to be able to test deisgns of user interfaces, not to do the tasks to replace the user.
